    Procedimentos cirúrgicos e não cirúrgicos para elevação das sobrancelhas: revisão sistemática e fluxograma de abordagem

    ABSTRACT Introduction: To review the medical literature regarding the surgical and non-surgical treatments of eyebrow ptosis and to present a decision flowchart for eyebrow lift. Methods: A systematic review of the literature available was held in PUBMED following inclusion and exclusion criteria. A flowchart was elaborated to systematize the approach to eyebrow ptosis based on the experience of the authors. Results: Several articles were included describing a variety of surgical and non-surgical correction techniques for eyebrow ptosis. The most common surgical approaches were internal eyebrow elevation, direct elevation, temporal elevation, and coronal/pretrichial/endoscopic rhytidoplasty. The non-surgical approaches found were botulinum toxin injections, fillers, and fixation threads. Conclusion: There are several surgical and non-surgical procedures described in the literature for lifting of the eyebrow, demonstrating that there is no ideal method for all patients. The use of a flowchart can help carry out a systematic and personalized approach according to the characteristics of each patient.

    O uso de enxerto e retalho de periósteo em Oftalmologia

    Abstract Purpose: The authors reviewed the periosteum use in ophthalmic surgery and its results. Methods: A comprehensive review of the literature using Google Scholar, PubMed and SciElo databases with all articles about the periosteum use in Ophthalmology published from 1977 to 2018. Results: A total of 21 studies followed the review's purpose: 9 case reports, 9 case series, 1 retrospective cohort and 2 prospective cohorts. 206 patients were submitted to the procedures with the periosteum use in the two main forms: graft and flap. The principal reasons for periosteal use were: orbital implant covering and eyelid reconstruction. Surgical outcomes were very satisfactory with low complication rates of 10.67% and minimal necessity of new surgical intervention of 2.42%. Conclusion: The periosteum use in Ophtalmology is a promising technique with good results so far and should always be a therapeutic option for the ophthalmologist. However, based on available data in the literature, more studies with statistical power for knowledge sedimentation in this subject are recommended.

    Estudo comparativo entre imagens de câmera fotográfica convencional e smartphone para o telediagnóstico de tumores palpebrais.

    ABSTRACT Objective: to compare the accuracy of eyelid tumor diagnosis obtained by evaluating conventional camera images with the ones obtained by evaluating smartphone images. Methods: from January 2016 to July 2017, 36 patients underwent face-to-face external assessments and biomicroscopic examinations to establish clinical diagnoses. The lesions were photographed using Canon PowerShot SX530 HS Digital Camera (16.8 Megapixels) and Samsung GALAXY S4 smartphone camera. All lesions were resected and submitted to anatomopathological examinations. Preoperative images were sent to two specialists in eyelid diseases and then remotely analyzed. Data from in-person diagnoses and telediagnoses were compared with the gold standard of histological diagnosis. Results: the most frequent lesions were basal cell carcinoma (33.3%), actinic keratosis (19.4%), and nevus (13.9%). Kappa coefficient for the diagnosis of malignant lesion showed agreement between the two tele-evaluators in the conventional digital camera images (0.68) and in the smartphone images (0.78). The face-to-face examiner’s accuracy was of 94.4%; the tele-evaluators’ accuracy in the conventional digital camera images was of 83.3% and in the smartphone images varied from 80.6% to 86.1%. Comparing the in-person diagnoses with the telediagnoses (obtained by evaluating conventional digital camera images or smartphone images), there was no significant difference in the hit rates. Conclusion: for eyelid tumor telediagnosis, images obtained using smartphone camera were equivalent to those obtained using conventional digital camera.
