- Análise bibliométrica dos artigos publicados na revista brasileira de cirurgia plástica entre 2005 e 2012. Parte III: desenhos de estudo e níveis de evidência(2014) DENADAI, RAFAEL; GOLDENBERG, DOV; RAPOSO-DO-AMARAL, CASSIO EDUARDOABSTRACT Introduction: Bibliometric methods have been used to analyze study designs and levels of evidence of articles published in various periodicals. Such information does not exist in the field of Brazilian plastic surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the study designs and levels of evidence of articles published in the Brazilian Journal of Plastic Surgery (“Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica,” RBCP), the only Brazilian journal devoted exclusively to plastic surgery. Methods: Study designs and levels of evidence of articles published in the RBCP between 2005 and 2012 were bibliometrically and quantitatively analyzed. The articles published in two periods (2005- 2008 and 2009-2012) were compared, in order to characterize the evolution of the scientific production of the RBCP. Results: During the period analyzed, 603 scientific articles met the inclusion criteria. The overall analysis revealed a significant predominance of retrospective studies and articles with level of evidence III (p < 0.05). The comparison between the periods showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the proportion of case series and scientific articles with level of evidence IV (2005-2008 < 2009-2012), and a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in the proportion of articles with level of evidence V (2005-2008 > 2009-2012). Conclusion: This study showed that a predominance of retrospective studies and articles with level of evidence III published in the RBCP between 2005 and 2012.

Parte I: análise quantitativa de artigos, autores e distribuição geográfica(2014) DENADAI, RAFAEL; GOLDENBERG, DOV; RAPOSO-DO-AMARAL, CASSIO EDUARDOABSTRACT Introduction: Bibliometric indicators have been implemented in several national and international studies. However, there is no specific information about the scientific articles discussing plastic surgery in Brazil. This study therefore aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis of articles published in the Brazilian Journal of Plastic Surgery (RBCP), the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery. Methods: A bibliometric analysis using quantitative indicators of all articles published in the RBCP was performed to characterize the scientific results over a seven-year period (2005-2012) marked by major changes to the journal. All articles selected were analyzed individually, in order to collect data on article and author numbers, and their geographical distribution. Two periods (2005-2008 vs. 2009-2012) were considered for comparative analysis. Results: A total of 603 articles met the inclusion criteria. The average number of articles published per year and the number of authors per article were 75.38 ± 32.12 articles/year and 3.98 ± 2.01 authors/article, respectively. There was a significant increase (p < 0.05) in articles/year in 20092012 compared to the earlier time period. No significant variations were detected (p > 0.05) in the number of authors/article (2005-2008 = 2009-2012). Most articles came from Brazilian institutions (98.67%; p < 0.05), and the Southeast region (63.70%; p < 0.05) accounted for most of these publications. Conclusion: During the observation period, the number of scientific articles published in the RBCP increased, there was no change in the number of authors per paper, and there was a predominance of articles coming from the Southeast Brazil.

Parte II: serviços de origem, apresentações prévias e tipos de artigos(2014) DENADAI, RAFAEL; GOLDENBERG, DOV; RAPOSO-DO-AMARAL, CASSIO EDUARDOABSTRACT Introduction: Although bibliometry has been used to characterize scientific results in numerous national and international journals, bibliometric data on scientific publications related to plastic surgery are scarce. Therefore, this study analyzed articles published in the Brazilian Journal of Plastic Surgery (BJPS), the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (BSPS). Methods: A quantitative bibliometric analysis of all articles published in the BJPS between 2005 and 2012 was performed. Information regarding presentation of the work at scientific meetings, institution type (BSPS-accredited or not), and article category were extracted from the articles included in this study. Data from two time periods (2005-2008 and 2009-2012) were analyzed and compared. Results: A total of 603 scientific articles fulfilled the insertion criteria. Most articles were from accredited services institutions (58.21%), had not been presented at scientific meetings (84.74%), and were published as original articles (78.77%) in the BJPS (p<0.05 for all comparisons). Comparative analysis revealed a significant reduction in the proportion of review articles and a significant increase in the proportion of scientific articles that had not previously been presented at scientific meetings in 2005-2008 compared to 2009-2012 (p<0.05 for both). Conclusion: This survey revealed a prevalence of original articles published by BSPS-accredited institutions that were not presented at scientific meetings.
