With the determination of key microorganisms, enzymes, metabolites, and pathways, advances are rapidly accumulating. Multilayer diagnostic and therapeutical algorithms, bedside microbiomics and metabolomics, new-generation probiotics and postbiotics, phage therapy, and patient-specific fecal transplantation are the foundations of the new era.
