    Robotic-Assisted Intravesical Ureteral Reimplantation
    (2012) MINNILLO, B. J.; MARCHINI, G. S.; NGUYEN, H. T.
Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is commonly found in children with urinary tract infection (UTI). In the presence of UTI, VUR can result in renal scarring. Mild cases of VUR are likely to resolve spontaneously, whereas high-grade VUR may require surgical intervention. Laparoscopic antireflux surgery was first described in 1994 but widespread acceptance never occurred, mostly likely because of the difficulties with suturing and fine dissection. Within the last 6°years, minimally invasive techniques to reduce morbidity have gained popularity, yet open ureteral reimplantation remains the gold-standard surgical approach for VUR. Robotic-assisted laparoscopic intravesical ureteral reimplantation is one of the newest techniques adopted, which adds surgical precision and improved dexterity to the pure laparoscopic approach. This chapter discusses the preoperative workup, detailed procedure, postoperative care, potential complications, and outcomes of the robotic-assisted laparoscopic intravesical ureteral reimplantation procedure. © 2012 Blackwell Publishing Ltd..
