(2021) NUNES, Amanda de Souza; BATISTA, Marina Picazzio Perez; ALMEIDA, Maria Helena de Morgani
Introduction: Occupational therapists make up the teams that provide assistance to frail elderly people in different care contexts, including health, social assistance and culture. Objective: To identify the role of occupational therapists who work with frail elderly people. Method: Qualitative and exploratory study. Interviews were carried out with occupational therapists who work with frail elderly people in the city of Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil, using a semi-structured script of questions. ""Snowball sampling"" was used. The results were analyzed using thematic categorical content analysis. Results: Nine occupational therapists working in health, social care and culture were interviewed. The categories found were: I) actions developed by occupational therapists in assisting frail elderly people; II) teamwork and articulation of knowledge, contributions and challenges; III) articulation of networks and intersectoriality; IV) relevant aspects in comprehensive care for frail elderly people. The interviewees perform diversified actions, considering the cultural and social insertion of the elderly and public policies; shared with team professionals and with services from the sectorial and intersectorial network; included caregivers in the assistance provided to the frail elderly. Conclusion: Among the challenges faced by occupational therapists in working with frail elderly people, there is the incorporation of the premises of integrality, intersectoriality and teamwork. The different actions taken are supported by public policies for aging, and seek unique care based on biopsychosocial complexity and contextual aspects that influence aging. The results indicate the need to expand the insertion of occupational therapists in teams that offer care to frail in different care contexts.

Challenges on network care considering the perceptions of preceptors of a Pet-Network regarding people with disabilities and at-risk infants: access, comprehensiveness and communication
(2017) AOKI, Marta; BATISTA, Marina Picazzio Perez; ALMEIDA, Maria Helena Morgani de; MOLINI-AVEJONAS, Daniela Regina; OLIVER, Fatima Correa
Introduction: Health Care Networks (HCN) are seen as a possibility for articulating and coordinating actions, health services and is a priority in the health system. One strategy to assure their improvement is the Tutorial Education Program (PET-Redes) in the health area. Within this context, it is important to understand the challenges and strengths for the effectiveness of HCN to the network care. Objective: To identify and analyze the perceptions of professionals who are preceptors of PET-Networks (Stork/at-risk infants Network and Disabled People Network) about the configuration of the network care and the challenges of professional actions related to it. Method: Qualitative study conducted through two focus groups with professionals that are preceptors of the PET-Networks. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Results: Both networks presented the following categories related to the network care configuration: access, comprehensive health care and communication. For this care network configuration, some challenges mentioned include geographical and architectural barriers, lack of social support, lack of transportation, failure on care flow and discontinuities in the communicative process. To deal with these challenges, the following strategies were mentioned: implementation of electronic medical records and formulation of specific forums for debate and articulation of actions, among others. It is important to notice that these categories are intertwined and that more challenges than strategies to overcome them were pointed out by the participants. Conclusion: There are several challenges for effective HCN from different levels and the construction of strategies needs to be convened among all persons involved in the HCN.

Disability assessment scale for dementia - long version (DADL-BR)
(2016) CANON, Mariana Boaro Fernandez; ALMEIDA, Maria Helena Morgani de; NOVELLI, Marcia Maria Pires Camargo
Introduction: There are no functional assessment tools for elderly with dementia available in the literature that will assess all occupations. Objective: To develop a Long Version of Disability Assessment for Dementia Scale (DADL-Br), covering all occupations provided by the American Association of Occupational Therapy (AOTA) and the activities that compose them and evaluate its content validity. Method: With the permission of the original version main author (DAD), Isabelle Gelinas PhD, the new items of the Long Version (DADL-Br) were developed based on the classification proposed by AOTA for occupations, considering the gaps in the original instrument. We reviewed the Cultural and Conceptual Equivalence by the Expert Committee and Multidisciplinary Committee. The suggestions of the Committees were accepted and the process followed for the pre-test and author analysis. Results: The first version of the instrument received 10 new fields and 64 new items, which after seven reviews of Cultural Equivalence (average concordance 89.2%), six reviews of Conceptual Equivalence (average concordance 81.2%), tree pre-tests and analysis of the original version main author, has resulted in the development of five versions, addition of twelve items and exclusion of seven items, and the final version consists of 20 fields and 109 items, being 10 new fields and 69 new items. Conclusion: This process conferred the content validity of DADL-Br, which includes all occupations proposed by AOTA and can be a useful tool to evaluate the profile of occupational performance of elderly with dementia.

(2019) ALMEIDA, Maria Helena Morgani de; BRUNELLO, Maria Ines Britto; MOLDAN, Patricia; TOLDRA, Ros Colom; SOUSA, Stephanie Krebs; ITO, Juliana Meirelles Goncalves; OLIVER, Fatima Correa
The integral care of people with disabilities is weakened by the non-organization and systematization of information. The objective of this study was to organize and systematize data of people with disabilities accompanied in municipal health services in the context of primary and mild complexity care, in Sao Paulo capital, concerning socio-demographic profile, access to professional care and aiding equipment and service accessibility. It also aimed to establish an association between sociodemographic aspects and types of disability. Qualitative, retrospective, exploratory, descriptive and documentary research were based on analyses of users' medical records and data from local health information systems. Information was collected on 166 people, 89 men (53.6%) and 83 (50%) adults between 19 and 59 years old; 44 (411%) users completed or did not complete elementary school. Of the 102 people who reported employment status, 38 (37.3%) were not working and among those who worked, 22 (41.5%) were men. Multiple disabilities (33.4%), physical disabilities (24.5%) and intellectual disabilities (21.6%) were recorded more often. A statistical association (p=0.005) was identified between age and type of disability, where physical disability was the most frequent among those between 6 and 14 years, and multiple disability was associated among the elderly. In primary care, users predominantly accessed doctors and nurses, and in mild complexity care, they contacted occupational therapists, physiotherapists and psychologists. Among the equipment, the use of wheelchairs prevailed. Architectural barriers were observed in services of mild complexity and there was a low offer of public transportation. There is a need to improve recording information, however it was possible to organize data on the part of people with disabilities, a fundamental action for networked care.

Promoting cognitive health: a virtual group intervention for community-living older adults
(2023) VASQUES, Tamires Nicodemos; ALMEIDA, Maria Helena Morgani de; TOLDRÁ, Rosé Colom; BATISTA, Marina Picazzio Perez
ABSTRACT Group cognitive interventions can promote a sense of self-efficacy to older adults. Due to restrictive social distancing measures in the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face interventions that aimed to promote cognitive health needed to be adapted to a virtual offering. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effects of promoting cognitive health in a virtual group intervention for community-living older adults. Methods: This is a mixed, prospective, and analytical study. Before and after the intervention, the tests were applied: Brief Cognitive Screening Battery (BCSB) and the Subjective Memory Complaints Questionnaire (MAC-Q). Data were collected at semi-structured interviews related to the adoption of memory strategies. Statistical tests were conducted for initial and final intragroup comparison. The qualitative data were assessed using thematic analysis. Results: A total of 14 participants concluded the intervention. With respect to mnemonic strategies, the most relevant for the qualifier “Did not use it before and started to do so after the group” were association (n=10; 71.4%) and dual-task inhibition (n=9; 64.3%). According to the tests, the intervention improved incidental, immediate, and delayed recall, as well as the perception of memory for “Remembering the name of the person they just met,” “Remembering the telephone number you use at least once a week,” “Remembering where they put an object,” “Remembering news from a magazine article or television program,” and “In general, how would you describe your memory now compared to when you were 40 years old.” Conclusions: The synchronous virtual group intervention was shown to be feasible for the elderly in the community who participated in the study.
