Intervention in a hospital foodservice and its effects on musculoskeletal symptoms
(2011) ISOSAKI, Mitsue; CARDOSO, Elisabeth; GLINA, Debora Miriam Raab; PUSTIGLIONE, Marcelo; ROCHA, Lys Esther
Objective This study analyzed the working conditions of a hospital food service before and after ergonomic interventions and their impact on the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms. Methods This case study was performed in a public heart hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil with 115 workers. The data were collected by questionnaires and ergonomic analysis of the work before and after the intervention. The data were statistically analyzed by the software SPSS 13.0 and Excel 2003 to verify symptom prevalence before and after the interventions. Results The workers were female nutrition attendants aged 25-34 years, with secondary education, married, with children. Most of the problems regarded limited space, inappropriate equipment and work materials, inadequate number of workers, intense mental effort and high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms, mainly in the lower limbs and shoulders. Once the working conditions improved, musculoskeletal symptoms decreased and all workers noted the changes made to the physical environment, equipment and work organization. Conclusion The interventions promoted improvements in the work environment and equipment and reduced the musculoskeletal symptoms experienced in the lower limbs, shoulders, neck, forearm and lower back, although this reduction was not statistically significant.

Pregnant and nursing workers: Impact of occupational risk agents (ORA) on the process of gestation, the conceptus and the infant
    (2017) PUSTIGLIONE, M.
Background: In Brazil, aspects related to the health and safety of working women are a matter of occupational concern at least since 1943; as a result, the conditions of pregnancy and lactation are included in the legislation. While on the one hand Law no. 13,287, from May 11, 2016, reinforces this concern, on the other it reveals the need for a more thorough study of occupational risks related to pregnant and breastfeeding women. Objective: To raise the state of the art by seeking information about occupational risk agents (ORA) for pregnant and nursing workers and their impacts on the conceptus and the infant to then develop a theoretical framework likely to ground technical, administrative, political and legal decisions. Method: An integrative review was performed of Brazilian and international literature to give a consistent answer to the problem under study, namely, what risk agents are present in the work environment/process of pregnant and nursing women and what impacts they have on gestation, the conceptus and the infant. Results: 17 references were selected, being 14 articles (8 international and 6 Brazilian), 2 handbooks and 1 interview, published from 1985 to 2016. The data collected were organized in six tables corresponding to various types of ORA. Conclusion: Considering the current stage of knowledge, ORA of chemical, biological, psychosocial and organizational or accidental nature might put gestation, the conceptus and the infant at risk. In turn, ORA of physical or biomechanical nature do not seem to represent a risk for the infant only. Preventive flowcharts are proposed for the approach of pregnant and nursing workers. © 2017 Revista Brasileira de Medicina do Trabalho.

Objective: To identify the issues occurred with nursing workers through a Health Monitoring System for Nursing Workers (SIMOSTE) and to describe the consequences of those problems. Method: This is a quantitative, exploratory and descriptive study realized in a teaching hospital in the west region of the city of Sao Paulo. Results: From the SIMOSTE, 1.847 occurrences were registered in a six month period. Within the main occurrences, medical licenses, work related accidents with and without removals; psychiatric consultations and psychotherapy were highlighted. Conclusion: The data points out to the need for the development of new health vigilance actions to notify accidents and illness related to work, besides the prevention of issues.
